CrowdRec project successfully kicked off

CrowdRecLogo-LargeEarlier this week, CC IRML hosted the kick-off meeting of the European project CrowdRec. CrowdRec (Crowd-powered recommendation for continuous digital media access and exchange in social networks) is a 36 month Collaborative Project, partially funded by the European Commission via FP7. We are proud to be part of the consortium of eight partners from academia and industry who bring complementary expertise.

The CrowdRec project addresses the challenge of keeping pace with the constant stream of data that we are facing when using social networking sites. We will focus on developing and evaluating algorithms that combine crowdsourcing and recommendation algorithms to achieve a new generation of social smartfeeds for access and exchange of digital media in social networks. In order to achieve such smartfeeds, it is necessary to go beyond passive information collection and also beyond users’ immediate social circles. Instead, the necessary information can be actively acquired by using crowdsourcing to solicit input and feedback from the wider community. CrowdRec algorithms create a symbiosis between users and content: they establish reciprocal relationships that both satisfy users’ digital media needs and connect media with users.
